While we will write every single day this school year, we have a major writing focus each nine weeks! Read more below!
1st Nine Weeks - Narrative
Narrative writing is telling a story with characters, setting, plot, conflict, and resolution. We will make sure our stories include all of these components.

2nd Nine Weeks- Opinion and Informational
We will spend about 5 weeks on Opinion writing - developing an opinion and providing evidence to back that opinion up. We will finish the nine weeks with 4 weeks of exploring Informational writing; comparing this kind of writing to narrative writing.

3rd Nine Weeks - Realistic Fiction, Informational-Biographies, and Research/Report.
We will spend 3 weeks on each of the above topics. We will re-visit Informational writing, this time through a biography lens. We will discuss research strategies, pick a topic, complete research, and write about the information learned for our Research/ Report unit.

4th Nine Weeks - Revising and Revisiting Genres
This nine weeks we will really focus on how important editing and revising is to the writing process. Since we are all authors, we need to understand that great work takes time and edits.

What a 3rd grader's writing should always include:
- Capital letters (I, Mr. Crumpler, Raleigh, and to start a sentence!)
- Correct punctuation (.,!?)
- Correct verb tense (ex: walk, walked, etc.)
- Topic sentence
- Linking words or phrases
- Conclusion sentence
